The Pikler Institute

Established in 1946 by Dr. Emmi Pikler, the Pikler Institute is a world-renowned home for children without guardianship. Located in Budapest, Hungary, the Institute has pioneered models of care that nurture children to become emotionally and socially mature individuals. Pikler conducts important research, delivers training, and provides care for forty resident children. Director Anna Tardos leads a team of researchers disseminating the Pikler methodology to organizations serving children around the globe. Many of the methodologies utilized by Whole Child have been inspired by the Pikler Institute. Pikler has provided training to all of the Whole Child team, and regularly consults on the implementation of training and technical assistance. To Emmi Pikler, Anna Tardos, and the many dedicated specialists at the Institute who continue to inspire us we are grateful.
